Jumpers compete at rope regionals
ADAMS TWP — Several members of Mars Stars Jump Rope Team competed at the AAU Maryland Open Jump Rope Regional Qualifying Tournament, held May 11 in Ellicott City, Md.
The Mars Stars Competitive Double Dutch Team of junior Maggie McKernan, eighth-graders Cassie McKernan and Rachel McKernan, and seventh-grader Natalie Welsh earned first place for Best Overall Double Dutch Team (ages 15 to 17). The team also took first place in Double Dutch Speed, 4x30 Relay, Single Freestyle and Pairs Freestyle and second place in Double Dutch Power.
In their respective age groups in the Singles Overall category, second-grader Josh Dunham took first place; third-graders Kevin Butler and Sara Soltis each earned third place; fourth-graders Adrian Zugehar, Sarah Weis and Cassidi Bender took fifth, seventh and ninth place, respectively; fifth-graders Tessa Bessette and Adrian Zugehar placed third and ninth, respectively; and Welsh took eighth place. In Singles Speed, Dunham earned first place; Butler, Soltis and Bessette, third place; Gentile, seventh place; Zugehar, eighth place; Weis, ninth place; and Bender, 11th place.
In Singles Power, Dunham and Soltis took first place; Butler, second place; Bessette, third place; Weis, fifth place; Gentile, sixth place; Bender and Welsh, seventh place; and Zugehar, eighth place. In the Singles Freestyle, Dunham took first place; Bessette, Butler, Gentile and Soltis, third place; Weis, seventh place; Bender, eighth place; and Zugehar and Welsh, ninth place.
The team of Soltis and Weis earned second place in Pairs Overall; third place in Pairs Speed; fifth place in Pairs Power; and second place in Pairs Freestyle. The team of Bender and Bessette place 10th in Pairs Overall, eighth in Pairs Speed and third in Pairs Power.
